Enrichment Course Descriptions
Find your artistic passion and let your creative side come alive in this Art Enrichment!
Do you want to learn about other countries, and have fun eating food? Each week we will explore a different country, and we will be eating tasty treats! This enrichment involves active participation, a group presentation, and occasional cooking.
Join together with other Hillcrest gamers to challenge yourself and others with board games and Chess! Whether you are brand new to the game or a grand master, come to Chess Club to learn strategy, play in a relaxing competitive environment, and meet new friends!
Come and craft - papermaking, scrapbooking, sticker making, t-shirt making, etc. All things crafts!
Both beginner and experienced disc golf players are invited to join the Hillcrest Enrich for All elective.
Learn basic putting and driving techniques then join your friends playing a round on our fields. The school will provide basic putters only, and this is all you need to get started. If you have your own gear, bring those so you can become familiar with your own putters, midrange/ approach and driver discs.
Class size limited. There will be no disc golf trimester 2.
Join a group of adventurers as you solve traps, conquer monsters and find treasures galore in the ultimate collaborative roleplaying experience!
Students will be involved in various aspects of gardening/horticulture including garden design and construction, identification and propagation of plants, composting, and of course everyone's favorite gardening activity - weeding!
Become the author of the next great graphic novel!
In this course you will learn about the different elements that make up a great graphic novel such as: character development; color and mood; panel layouts; plot and conflict; interesting dialogue; and dynamic settings. We will also tap into drawing lessons for every level of artist.
If you know nothing about graphic novels, that is okay! We will be looking at lots of examples and reading some fun graphic novels as we go through this unit, and when we are done, you will have your own all set to go!
Let your imagination run wild with CoSpaces. Create your own 3D worlds with code, then explore them in captivating ways using Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR & AR). Become a creator of your own space while developing 21st Century skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, and coding.
This is a beginner level program, so don’t be intimidated - try something new!
In this class, we will design, build and program LEGO EV3 robots.
Students in this class will have the option to join the Hillcrest robotics team that will compete in the Sonoma County Robotics Challenge on Saturday, May 4, 2024. There are several different events that you can compete in.
Need a little extra help in math? Need a quiet space to complete your homework?
Come to Mrs. Rich's classroom to get work done in a supportive environment.
Do you play an instrument? Do you like to sing? Do you want to be a rockstar? In Rock Band, students will learn and rehearse songs to perform. We need guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboard players, singers, and other musicians.
No performing experience necessary!
Students will help design and paint the sets for the spring musical. They will also help make props to be used in the play and possibly some costume pieces. We will work on the stage in Hillcrest Hall and in the Maker Lab.
The Sports History enrichment is precisely as it sounds! We will explore the history of sports within not just America, but the world. American Football, football (soccer), baseball, you name it - we’ll cover it.
This is an enrichment for those who need a bit more time each week completing work and a quiet space to rest/recuperate each Wednesday. We will play relaxing study music and set a peaceful/quiet atmosphere for students who need a bit more time weekly to do school work or just need a quiet space to relax mid-week. If you need a bit more time each week to complete work, then this enrichment is for you!
Some students may be placed in this class based on their grades.
Students in this course will produce the school’s yearbook.
Students will participate in taking photographs, planning layouts, developing content ideas, writing copy, and developing and implementing marketing ideas. Students will gain valuable and real-world skills such as how to work as a team, time management, business/sales/advertising, writing, responsibility and communication.
Students who sign up for Yearbook will be in this Enrichment for all three trimesters.
Channel your inner warrior while meditating and moving through yoga sequences. This will be the perfect way to end your Wednesday. Namaste.
